In Transit to The Green is a show of photographs taken by five members of Transit Grp. All of the images included in this show have been captured using a mobile phone on a journey of some kind - whether that was an aimless stroll, a commute to work, or a trip to a place unseen before. In Transit to The Green encompasses the variety of ways in which photography is used in the creative practices of the exhibited artists. While some of the photographs amount to finished work and others are a reference for later or just something that caught the eye, these images express the individual interests of each artist and the things that they notice on the go. It is not solely about what is captured in the photos – these images reflect the sudden spark of excitement that compels one to stop and fix the moment in time. For the most part, these photos have not been considered significant enough to be displayed and thus remain confined to the screens that they were taken on. In this exhibition, the printed phone photos emerge from the depths of the artists’ digital archives.

The phone-sized photographs appear to fit in the palm of one’s hand seamlessly. There seems to be a sense of familiarity and comfort when viewing the images in the 3:4 aspect ratio on a black background. The viewer is encouraged to hold and feel the physical image, something that is usually forbidden in exhibitions. The unexpected sight of a phone box on a pub table, an opportunity to browse through someone else's images – these moments offer a unique thrill, akin to peeking into another person's phone, a guilty pleasure that mirrors the excitement felt when taking the image.

Transit Grp. is pleased to present their second exhibition! The collective would like to invite you to flick through a selection of these extracted digital relics. Each of the five artists has curated their own box of phone photos for your viewing pleasure.
